OUR VISION FOR HOME

Our homeless population in Huntsville is growing, and is projected to match that of Birmingham in the next few years. Our beautiful, hopeful city can seem hopeless to our most vulnerable neighbors — our chronically homeless men and women living on our streets. These are the friends we love the most.

We couldn’t be more excited to share a unique solution to solving chronic homelessness here in Huntsville. What an incredible opportunity to share this vision with you and have you walk with us every step of the way.

In loving memory of Jacob Probus.

In loving memory of Jacob Probus.

So, I invite you to envision double-digit acres here in gorgeous North Alabama. As you pull up to the property, you will already sense a feeling of home and overwhelming goodness. This property will become a safe haven and a beacon of hope for those that were once filled with hopelessness. This property will become home to our Huntsville homeless. It will become a place where dignity is restored and our friends can heal.

We plan to house hundreds of chronically homeless men and women in tiny homes and campers that they will pay rent on. It is an incredibly exciting future as we work towards a community approach to solve homelessness. We also have an exciting short-term solution to lifting friends off the streets beginning right now!

We know that housing alone won’t solve homelessness — but community will.  Together, we can bring our friends home!

HOW YOU CAN HELP NOW!

IMG_8050.jpg

We have FOUR friends that are in immediate need of being housed. As we eluded to earlier, Community of Hope's short-term plan is to lift individuals up off the streets and into campers. We will place these friends in various safe places throughout the city as we are all prayerfully seeking land to house hundreds of our friends from the streets. Once we have acquired that property, we will pull each of them into their forever home at COH. Each of these friends have been housed and are on the verge of becoming homeless once again. We choose to walk these steps with them and are offering our full support during these transitions into something we know will become a permanent safe haven. We are so blessed to finally be able to offer a unique solution for our friends we so deeply love. That solution is Community of Hope.

We want to introduce you to our friends, so meet Rickey. Rickey honorably served our country as a Navy Seal. He has been housed for 18 months and is in a slumlord situation. His roommates are moving out and he can no longer afford to pay rent with his check. He has been served an eviction notice to be out on 09/22/2019, and we are working diligently to maintain his housing. Rickey is on oxygen full time and needs a place to call home.

We also have another veteran ready to be housed, as well as a couple we are walking closely with. We expect the couple to be ready for housing in the next month. We are not OK with any of our friends living on the streets. Our team is committed to walking this path with these friends to ensure that this does not happen again. We need you to come along side us and our friends too, because they matter, and are so incredibly valuable and important.

Our game plan to house these four friends is to purchase three campers in the next few weeks. Our budget for each camper is $12,800.

The total includes the following: camper purchase $10K, and the remaining $2,800 is for remodeling, maintenance, tag, title, insurance, supplies and rent assistance (if needed).

This is an urgent request for financial donations now to keep these four amazing people from becoming homeless once again. We believe in them. We believe in our team to ensure they stay housed. We believe in you, our loving community to help us do that.

We are asking for $38,400 to bring FOUR people a safe haven.  We are taking a huge leap of faith and trusting God will provide 3 camper's by the 22nd of this month.  That leaves us 13 days to prevent four people from returning to the streets.

Help us provide hope now and donate below!

Imagine the possibilities if our friends mentioned above received a one time donation of the below:

  • 2 people gave $5000

  • 10 people gave $1000

  • 15 people gave $500

  • 20 people gave $250

  • 25 people gave $100

  • 40 people gave $50

  • 56 people gave $25

Community of Hope is a fully incorporated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We will send you a statement annually to use towards your taxes for charitable giving.

We would love for you to also consider a monthly gift as we continue to work with our chronically homeless brothers and sisters in providing a solution both short term through camper purchases and long term through providing a master-planned community right here in Huntsville for those that live on our streets. Together we can bring them home!

BE LIKE JACOB.

This inaugural newsletter is dedicated to the late Jacob Probus.

Jacob, a long-time advocate for the homeless, passed away July 15, 2019. He was stung by yellow jackets and he didn't know he was allergic. After his death, the homeless community rallied around Jacob's family — his wife, Mandy, and two sons. The homeless community was heartbroken. Jacob had spent countless hours serving at ground zero. The Probus family would move homeless camps, help friends move out of tents, take friends to do laundry and help supply basic needs and food. Jacob loved those friends with all his heart and was committed to making a difference in their lives. The homeless community felt the same way about Jacob. He is loved, appreciated and deeply missed.

Our goal is to finish what Jacob helped start — to make a difference in our homeless community and solve chronic homelessness.
